2015 Reviews – Montenegro – Knez – Adio

This year, Montenegro is hoping to follow from their success last year, where they qualified for the first time ever! Knez is the artist with all the pressure to succeed once again, with a Zeljko song – Adio.

The song is no doubt touched by the legendary Zeljko Jokismovic, it’s almost a mix of all his previous Eurovision entries. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s essentially a Zeljko song, and no doubt it will be performed with a Zeljko inspired staging, it’s just that it’s a different singer out the front. It’s a good song, but it’s probably not the most memorable this year. I find it difficult to follow the melody of the song, but the ethnic charm and the language choice are a really huge positive for me.

As mentioned before, I think the staging will end up being similar to how Serbia’s 2012 performance was staged. Simple, but effective. Do I think they deserve to qualify? Well, yes. I think it’s a worthy song, and I have a feeling it will grow on me after the contest like Sergej’s song did last year. I hope they can qualify again, as it was such a nice feeling seeing a small nation singing in their own language qualifying into the final.

With all that in mind, I’m going to give the song a 6/10. Ask me again in a month, and things might be different…
